New Carrollton Branch

Library Opens!

The state-of-the-art, newly renovated New Carrollton Branch Library is open. Designed by GWWO, Inc. / Architects, using elements such as light, color and geometry, the two dimensional static form of the former library transitions to an elevated three-dimensional dynamic form that is energetic and welcoming. It has an enlarged entrance with glass walls for more natural light. The central atrium showcases a colorful resin and aluminum mobile: Convergence of Knowledge by Alan Binstock, through the Art in Public Places program.

With a collection of 50,000 plus items and the capacity for 30,000 more, the New Carrollton Branch  boasts of 66 public computers, a conference room, two meeting rooms, seven study rooms (two specifically for children and one for teens), a Whisper (quiet study) Room, a vending café, a Friends bookstore, and a water bottle filling station, all on the main level for the convenience of our customers. Have an electric car? There is a dual-head charging station in the parking lot just for you.

The Discovery Reef children’s area features a 270-gallon salt water aquarium, colorful overhead lighting that simulates the underwater experience, a reef wall seating area complete with life-like exotic fish, a storytime room that replicates a deep sea habitat and a glowing tube of moving bubbles. Moreover, its Ready 2 Read Center encourages interactive early literacy activities, such as blocks, dramatic play and puzzles.

Check out the proclamation, fact sheet and photos from the recent New Carrollton Branch Library Grand Reopening. Be sure to visit our New Carrollton Branch soon to see for yourself all it has to offer!

Designed with you in mind @ your library!
