PG Cash Tax Preparation Program

Prince George’s CASH (Creating Assets Savings and Hope) Campaign is a coalition of financial institutions, faith-based, and non-profit organizations that focuses on expanding the financial empowerment of our community members. They seek to bring more funds into our communities by expanding access to free tax preparation. CASH’s free tax program is under the Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.

Program Description

Prince George’s CASH Campaign will provide certified volunteer tax preparers to file people’s taxes for free. Library locations chosen by the organization will be at select libraries with low to moderate-income and senior neighborhoods not already served by other organizations in their coalition (CASA, CTA, PGC Community College etc.)

How it works

  • Customers make a 20-minute appointment
  • Customers bring their tax paperwork to their appointment and meet with a volunteer.
  • The volunteer collects the necessary paperwork and talks to them about tax preparation.
  • During the appointment, the volunteer schedules a paperwork pick-up date one week later.
  • The volunteer files customers’ taxes.
  • Customers return the following week at their scheduled time to pick up their paperwork.
  • ALL Printing will be done by PG CASH, either paying for printing onsite at printer stations OR at their offices. PGCMLS will NOT be responsible for ANY printing.

Please bring these items:

  • Photo ID for self and spouse
  • Original Social Security cards or ITIN letters required for self, spouse, and all dependents (NO photocopies)
  • Social Security Number of spouse, if married filing separately
  • Birth dates for dependents
  • Wage and earning statements (W-2, 1099R, Social Security, etc.)
  • Unemployment Statements (1099G)
  • Bank interest statements
  • Form 1095A Only if health insurance was purchased through the Marketplace (www.healthcare.gov)
  • Bank check for Direct Deposit information
  • Last year’s tax returns, if available
  • All other tax documents

PG Cash does NOT prepare returns for:

  • Business returns (with expenses over $35,000 or Net Loss)
  • Extensive or complex stock transactions
  • Rental property
  • Moving expenses
  • Purchase or sale of home
  • Office in home (Except for simplified format)
  • Nonresident/foreign student (1040NR)
