Prince George’s County Memorial Library System Names Catherine E. Hollerbach as new Library Director

Largo, Maryland – The Prince George’s County Memorial Library System (PGCMLS) Board of Library Trustees is pleased to announce the appointment of Catherine E. Hollerbach as the new Library Director effective July 13, 2026. Hollerbach is a nationally respected public library leader with nearly 40 years of experience, including a previous role with PGCMLS.

Catherine E. Hollerbach, PGCMLS Library Director

Hollerbach joins PGCMLS from Anne Arundel County Public Library where she served as Chief Operating Officer leading operations for 16 branches and more than 400 staff. Her career is distinguished by strategic leadership, operational excellence, and a deep commitment to meeting the evolving needs of diverse communities.

“Catherine is an exceptional leader with a strong record of guiding large organizations through growth and change,” said Sylvia Bolivar, Chair of the PGCMLS Board of Library Trustees. “Rooted in Maryland public institutions, she brings a deep understanding of the communities we serve. We are excited to welcome her back to PGCMLS and confident her experience will lead the library system into its next chapter with vision, integrity, and a strong commitment to public service.”

Throughout her career, Hollerbach has expanded access, modernized services, and strengthened community outcomes. She established Maryland’s first Book Sanctuary, advancing intellectual freedom, and helped scale a Kindergarten Readiness strategy that included the widely adopted “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” program, supporting more than 14,800 families and improving early literacy. Her leadership also includes major capital projects, innovative public spaces such as Discoveries: The Library at the Mall, and systemwide work in public health partnerships, workforce development, and equitable service delivery. She also led the library system’s COVID-19 response to maintain essential services and public safety, helped negotiate a first union contract, and is known for building collaborative, high-performing teams.

“Catherine Hollerbach is one of Maryland’s most respected library leaders,” said Maryland State Librarian Morgan Lehr Miller. “Her deep experience, her commitment to equitable and innovative service, and her long history of strengthening library communities across the state make her an extraordinary choice for this role. PGCMLS is gaining a leader whose influence has already shaped Maryland’s library landscape, and we look forward to the continued collaboration and vision she will bring in this new chapter.”

Earlier in her career, Hollerbach was West Area Manager for PGCMLS, where she oversaw several high-volume branches and helped lead major facility planning and service initiatives. Her return represents a meaningful moment of continuity and renewed vision for the organization.

“I am honored to return to Prince George’s County and to serve as Library Director of this exceptional library system,” Hollerbach said. “Libraries are vital community anchors, and I look forward to working with staff, the Board, the Union, the County, and our community partners to expand opportunity, strengthen access, and ensure every resident can benefit from the transformative power of libraries.”

Hollerbach holds a Master of Library and Information Services and a Bachelor of Science in Journalism, both from the University of Maryland.
