Let’s take a trip around the world! Celebrate cultures and people from across the globe by exploring a variety of traditions and how they are preserved. Each month will feature a different heritage community, children’s book, and craft.
In January, the focus will be on Black history and culture. The featured book will be Because Claudette by Tracey Baptiste, illustrated by Tonya Engel. Participants will create paper plate masks while learning about the significance of masks in African storytelling traditions.
As participants arrive, coloring sheets highlighting Black contributions to the U.S. Civil War effort will be provided. Once everyone has settled, the group will read Because Claudette together, followed by the mask-making activity.
