About the Presenter: Sherma Jack Brisseau, RDN, is a Registered Dietitian and Licensed Nutritionist with over 40 years of experience. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Lehman College, Bronx, NY, and a Master’s in Education from New York University School of Education. She retired from Kaiser Permanente, where she provided consultant services as a Health Educator for 24 years. She is presently working part-time as a Nutritionist at the Prince George’s County Health Department, Health & Wellness Division, providing nutrition programming for the Dine, Learn & Move program, the Diabetes Prevention Program, and nutrition education workshops for chronic disease and self-management.
Sherma has worked on initiatives within the state of Maryland focusing on reducing and eliminating health disparities, including infant mortality, HIV/AIDS, and oral cancer. She continues to be instrumental in planning community outreach, health fairs, educational summits, and collaborating with community-based groups and partners to address food insecurity in Prince George’s County.
Ms. Brisseau is a charter member and past treasurer of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), Bowie/Mitchellville Section. She received the Dorothy I. Height Award in 2001 and 2003 for her dedicated service.
