Large Meeting Room (213)Step into the vibrant world of mehndi (henna art) through an immersive, five-senses cultural workshop led by a professional henna artist. Participants will explore the history, botany, and cultural significance of henna across South Asian, Middle Eastern, and North African traditions. All interested participants will receive a freehand henna design by the artist. Optional bindis are available.
Through interactive stations and guided discussion, participants will:
- Learn where henna comes from and how the natural paste is made
- Discover its botanical and herbal properties
- Understand when and why henna is traditionally worn
- Learn how to identify authentic natural henna versus ink-based “henna tattoos”
- Explore the meaning and symbolism of the bindi
- Engage with rangoli- and mandala-inspired design
- Experience cultural textiles through hands-on saree draping
