Teacher FAQ’s

You may get a card if you live outside Prince George’s County. Residents of Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Virginia (Alexandria, Arlington County, Fairfax County, Falls Church, Loudoun County or Prince William County) may obtain a Prince George's County library card free of charge when you visit any branch library with proper identification (photo ID and proof-of-address). The card allows you to borrow 75 items at a time.

As long as the sources are verified, online research (eBooks, articles, etc.) is just as valid, if not more so than print materials, which tend to get outdated quickly. Because teachers often assign similar research topics at the same time of year, the library may be more likely to provide online resources when there is high demand.

Yes, library staff will try our hardest to accommodate your requests for visits, but please contact the branch at least three to four weeks in advance. Requests will be honored in the order in which they were received. Please also file an Assignment Alert with us if you'd like some assistance with a project.

If you have an assignment coming up, and would like the public library to try to help, please call your local branch and let them know with as much notice as possible. That will help us anticipate demand on materials. Because of the large number of students in the county, we are not able to guarantee many copies of a title (class sets) will be available at the same time.

All PGCPS students automatically have LINK accounts which allow students access to library services using their 9-digit ID Number with PGCPS in front, no sign-up needed! Students will be able to borrow up to 3 items and never have overdue fines.

Ex. PGCPS100100100 (ID can be found on child's report card)

The PIN is the last four digits of their LINK number (Ex. 0100)

Assignment Alerts are webforms you can fill out that will allow us to assist students in gathering age-appropriate resources from our Catalog and Online Resources to use in the library, at school and from home.
