A 95-year-old Lakota elder, played by elder Dave Bald Eagle is known only as Dan. On a road trip through the Pine Ridge Reservation, Dan cajoles a white author into writing his memoir, turning the unplanned trip into a lesson on Native American life. Inspired by the actor's history, the improvised monologue about the Wounded Knee Massacre is one of the most moving scenes of the film.
