Immerse yourself in Asian American heritage as we welcome author Rita Caras from 6-7pm for a presentation about the history Filipinos in Prince George's County. Rita, a proud native Washingtonian and descendant of Filipino pioneers, brings a wealth of knowledge and passion for cultural preservation to our gathering.
With a Master’s degree in Library Sciences/Archives and a rich background in Fine Arts and Art History from the University of Maryland, College Park, Rita's expertise extends far beyond the pages of her books. Having spent nearly four decades in distinguished roles within the federal government, including as an Archives Specialist at the National Archives & Records Administration and a Museum Specialist at the National Gallery of Art, Rita is deeply committed to documenting and celebrating the contributions of Asian Americans to our nation's history.
Rita's co-authorship of 'Images of America: Filipinos in Washington, DC' stands as a testament to her dedication to preserving the stories and legacies of her community. Moreover, her founding of a non-profit foundation aimed at preserving and sharing the histories, cultures, and archives of Filipino Americans in the DMV area underscores her tireless advocacy for cultural heritage.
As a founding member of the DMV Chapter of the Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS), Rita continues to be at the forefront of promoting awareness and understanding of Asian American history and culture.
